Our design approach for FIMER’s facility in the dense industrial hub of Peenya bridges the spatial demands of high-precision manufacturing with a human-centric corporate environment. We wanted to move away from the traditional, utilitarian archetype of industrial infrastructure by creating an architectural identity that feels anchored, open, and responsive to its climate. The exterior massing establishes a rhythmic language through vertical solar fins along the main facade, which manage glare and heat gain while giving the building a striking, structural presence. A double-height glass portal anchors the main entry, contrasting the brutalist weight of the exposed concrete with transparency and welcoming daylight deep into the reception volume.

Recognizing the intensity of Peenya’s urban fabric, we prioritized the integration of landscape as an active sanctuary for the workforce. The ground-level front setback was transformed into a continuous pedestrian promenade, detailed with stone paving, linear water channels, and planted trellises that carry climbing flora up the structure. Outdoor seating modules nestled under native tree canopies offer a calm microclimate for breaks, creating a seamless transition between the exterior grounds and the built envelope.

Internally, our goal was to foster a warm, collaborative atmosphere that contrasts with the technical nature of the facility. We selected a refined material palette featuring natural oak finishes, exposed concrete columns, and geometric terracotta tile accents that bring textural richness to common areas like the cafeteria. Open office floors utilize an industrial aesthetic with exposed black ceiling ductwork, softened by high-capacity planter troughs integrated into custom partitions. Crimson metal frameworks define micro-zones and breakout nooks without interrupting spatial flow or blocking natural daylight. Glass meeting enclosures, including the boardroom, maintain visual connection across the floorplate, grounding executive and operational teams within the same biophilic design narrative.
